Heartfelt thanks to Fran Hurley for her ten years of dedicated service in the Illinois State Legislature. We wish her all the best as she moves on to her new post on the Illinois Labor Relations Board. Fran’s departure creates a vacancy in the Illinois House of Representatives for the 35th District. Under state law, a selection committee comprised of the local committeepersons from the political party of the outgoing legislator is responsible for filling the vacancy. The committeepersons, using an open and transparent process, are entrusted with finding a qualified candidate to represent our communities in the General Assembly.
Eligibility
Under state law, the appointee must be a minimum of 21 years old, a member of the same political party as the legislator he or she is replacing (in this case the Democratic Party), and have resided in the 35th Representative District for two years preceding the appointment.
The selection committee has 30 days from the date the vacancy is created to make an appointment. Anyone who is interested in being considered by the committee should email a resume and cover letter to 35thDistrictCommittee@gmail.com by Wednesday, March 15th.
A virtual public meeting will be held before Thursday, March 30th for the committee to fill this vacancy. If you have any questions, please email 35thDistrictCommittee@gmail.com.
